Our first pet is our Chocolate labrador retriever Daisy. She is currently 16 weeks old and beautiful. She is a great companion dog! Although she will be someday accompanying my husband when he is hunting, right now we are content to let her be a lap dog at 32 lbs. The vet told us she is a little overweight and that we have to cut back her food. Though it pains me to do so she is eating 3 and a half cups a day with carrots and apples for treats. Of course, only Washington apples for a Washington dog! [About Labrador Retrievers]
A contributing factor in our Daisy's sudden weight gain is the arrival of our mini dachsund, Sir George. She sometimes gets into his bowl too. You see, Sir George is free fed and unlike Daisy who gets her meals 3 times a day.
You can see from his pictures that just like our older puppy, he has a personality of his own. Interestingly, he holds his place well in our entire household and
has managed to even put our Ms. Daisy in her place when needed. He is small, delightfully rambunctious and has been the perfect companion of our son. [About Dachsunds]
In case you are wondering how our two pets are getting along...
There are several pet supply stores around the island. I have mentioned a few below that we go to.
There is Today's Dog on Pioneer Street in Oak Harbor. If you want a customized bed for your pet, this is the place to go to. You can choose fabric and size and the price varies accordingly.

Island Pet Center in Oak Harbor caters specifically on pets even exotic ones. I have seen aquatic and reptilian life, ferrets and birds etc. in the store.
Another good place we patronize is Skagit Farmers Supply Store. I enjoy looking at the chicks that were colored for Easter Sunday during my recent past visits.
For those interested in mini dachsunds, a litter is ready to be part of a good home. You can inquire via email. Contact whitehousedlh@comcast.net. |
